San Jose Signs Index 

The Winchester Shopping Center sign, with its giant red arrow and bouncy mid-century script, dates to around 1952. This great neon beacon predates its neighbor Valley Fair and has survived countless incarnations of its associated shopping center. In the 1950s, the center used to be home to a supermarket, toy store, barber shop, bank, and restaurant. Today, just the sign remains from the original lineup. Sadly, the sign has been dark for many years...but when it used to light up the night sky, the interior of the arrow was outlined in red neon, and the arrow would flash.
