The bright neon parrot of Andy’s Pet Shop sat perched high above The Alameda for 60 years before moving to a new home. Much has changed since Andy Camilleri and his wife Geraldine went into the business of peddling pets in 1950. The store used to specialize in exotic breeds. Today, the focus is pet supplies. Current Andy’s owner Lissa Shoun, having weathered a store relocation and pandemic, deserves a medal for perseverance. Even in the worst of times, she has kept the original store signage in the hopes of one day seeing the neon bird in the wild again. The beloved Andy’s signage sits inside the store, in two pieces.
