About The Event

When the Palm Haven residence park opened in 1913, it was publicized as “one of the finest residence parks in California.” With its proximity to transportation and outstanding landscape design including 300 Mexican fan palms planted at 25-foot intervals, property in the 130-lot tract sold quickly. On-premises architectural services helped ensure that Palm Haven’s houses -- in styles such as Craftsman, Mission Revival, Prairie, and Spanish Revival – were of the highest quality.  Some of San Jose’s leading citizens, including artist Charles Harmon and architect Frank Wolfe, made their homes in Palm Haven.

Today, Palm Haven is a designated San Jose Conservation Area, noted for its landscaping and 1910s-1930s architecture, with few visual changes over the last century. Our walking tour will take us back in time, through Palm Haven and its surrounding areas, where we’ll see the work of some of the best local architects and builders of the time, including Frank, Carl, and Linwood Wolfe, Warren Skillings, Herman Krause, George Kocher, and  Wallace & Bush. Tour-goers will also enjoy a not-to-be-missed chance to stop at one of Palm Haven’s finest houses, where we’ll be invited to tour the home’s interior and grounds.

PAC*SJ member tickets ($15) on sale now, non-member ($20) available beginning Friday, June 21st. Space is limited and advanced reservations required; meeting location will be shared prior to tour date.
