About The Event
Join PAC*SJ and expert tour guide Michael Boulland for a fascinating historic walking tour through the New Almaden Mining Historic District, once a world-famous goldrush-era quicksilver (mercury) mining community and a National Historic Landmark since 1961. The 1.6-mile historic walking tour will begin at Casa Grande at 21350 Almaden Road, 12 miles south of downtown San Jose. Tour highlights will include adobe, early brick, and wooden miners' houses from the 1850s, a jail, blacksmith shop, doctor’s office, the Hacienda Cemetery, and more. After the tour, attendees will be able to explore inside Casa Grande (1854) and the Quicksilver Mining Museum on its first floor.
